Clarenceville Cemetery – Memorial Day 2009

Today, after singing the Star Spangled Banner and God Bless America at the at the Canton, Michigan Memorial Day ceremony, I made my annual trip to Clarenceville Cemetery in Livonia, Michigan to place a flag and memorial on the grave of my Great Great Grandfather Abner Delos Austin, Civil War veteran (Private, 24th Michigan Volunteer Infantry, Company I).

God bless all of our American heroes.

  • I see that you have a relative in the 24th that is very interesting because I have a relative in the 5th MI cavalry. His name was Andrew Bishop. I think that is very cool that you found him.

    • Hi Anna,

Small world! I, too, have an ancestor in the 5th Michigan Cavalry, Co. A. He is Great Great Grand Uncle Charles W. Austin (Abner’s older brother). I would love to know more about Andrew Bishop. Do you have any photos? I have been doing a lot of research on the actions of the 5th and would be happy to share.
